John Francis Amherst Cecil

John Francis Amherst Cecil was the first secretary of the British Embassy, Washington.[1]

Biography

He was born in 1890 in London, England. He attended Eton College and Oxford University.[1]

He became the first secretary of the British Embassy in Washington in 1923. In 1924 he married Cornelia Stuyvesant Vanderbilt, as her first husband.[2] He then resigned from his diplomatic post. Their two sons were, George Henry Cecil and William Cecil. The couple divorced in 1934.[1]

He died on October 22, 1954 in Asheville, North Carolina.[1]
