John Anthony Mendez (born 1955) is a United States federal judge.
Early life and education
Born in Oakland, California, Mendez received a B.A. from Stanford University in 1977,[1] and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1980, where he was a member of the Board of Student Advisers.
Career
Mendez was in private practice in California, 1980-1984, 1986-1992, and from 1993 to 2001. He was an assistant U.S. Attorney of the United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of California from 1984 to 1986. He was a U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California from 1992 to 1993.
Judicial service
Mendez was a judge on the Sacramento County Superior Court, California from 2001 to 2008.
Mendez was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. Mendez was nominated by President George W. Bush on September 6, 2007, to a seat vacated by David F. Levi. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on April 10, 2008, and received his commission on April 17, 2008.
