Joel Piper (born October 18, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, musician, and disc jockey born in San Diego, California. He most famously known for being the ex-drummer and clean vocalist for the metalcore band Confide from 2009 to 2013. As a solo musician, he has released three full-length studio albums and three EPs.

Early life

Joel Piper is half Native American and German. He was born on October 18, 1985 in Sonora, Mexico to missionary parents who resided in a humble cement home there for 5 years helping the less fortunate. He was raised there till he was 5, at just eighteen months old Piper started playing an actual drum beat on the couch with drum sticks cut in half by his father so his small hands could hold the sticks. He would make up songs and sing them all day long. He had a natural ability to hold a 4x4 beat. When he was 5 he wanted to use his gift to make other people feel how he felt. More importantly the whole world. Once Joel finished high school he began making a living playing in pop, rock, metal, and pop punk bands, touring humble to large tours on all the major continents. Since a child Joel had a hunger to record his song ideas so he could listen to them over and over. Finding ways to jerry-rig components and devices, Joel made his own albums for him and his friends in which eventually progressed into producing and recording songs for some of the worlds greatest artists and song writers.[1]

Musical career

Piper played the drums for Olivia, a band from the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.

In October 2005, Joel started writing and recording music about his personal experiences in his bedroom. Later that year, he claimed his life changed forever from the teachings and life of Jesus Christ at a church that met off the I5 freeway exit in Orange County, California called Avery Pkwy. He named the project after the street name as a symbol of when Jesus healed his stomach and revealed to him the true meaning of hope. He released one full-length album ‘You Have The Roadmap’ in 2006.[2] 'Dream Big' was released on iTunes on March 11

His debut EP, "The Only One" was released on the 1st of November 2011. With 210,000 downloads in one week, it debuted at No. 11 on the iTunes pop chart passing big names such as Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato and Adele. The EP also reached top 40 on the Billboard Heetseekers Chart without any label or 3rd party support other than his dedicated family of fans. His single The Only One was also hand selected by iTunes as the Free Discovery Download of the week. His debut pop album Dying to Live has an experimental and ballad heavy track list where he explores a different side of his songwriting abilities taking his sound to new depths with a unique and engaging blend of rich organic sounds with electro-pop touches. "Dying to Live" debuted at No. 17 on the iTunes pop charts, putting him side by side with Swedish House Mafia and Zedd.[3]
