Jesse Anne Villanueva Shugg[1] is a Canadian-Filipino international football player who plays for Fylkir of the Icelandic 1. deild kvenna.

Education

She studied at the Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Burlington where she was a three-sport athlete and competed internationally. She later attended at the Florida Atlantic University. She graduated from the University of Miami and attained a bachelor's degree of Science of Exercise Physiology.[2][3]

Football career

Youth

Shugg played for the Miami Hurricanes, the collegiate team of University of Miami from 2012-2013. She also has played with Florida Atlantic University Owls for two season from 2010-2011 before her stint with the hurricanes. She was team captain as a sophomore during the 2011 season.[2][3]

Senior

Shugg was part of K-W United FC in 2014.[4] In 2016, Shugg was signed to play for [Tindastóll (Football)|[UMF Tindastóll]] of the Icelandic 1. deild kvenna.[5][6] On November 2016, Shugg was signed with Fylkir, another top division Icelandic club. She is set to play with the club in the upcoming season in 2017.[7]

International

Shugg has trained with the Canadian U-20 national team. She first played with the Philippines women's national football team at the 2012 LA Vikings Cup where she scored five goals in a 8-1 win against side Leon. Her first international cap for the national team was against Iran at the 2014 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualifiers where she scored a brace helping the team make its 6-0 win against the Iranians.[1]

Coaching

Shugg worked with the PBA Sailfish women's soccer team as an assistant coach in 2014.

Personal life

Shugg's parents is Theresa and Glen Shugg and has three siblings, one brother and two sisters.[2] Her mother, Theresa is from the Philippines.[1]
