He has been elected to the Løgting (the Faroese parliament) since 1994 and has been parliamentary leader for his party since then. He is the leader of the Centre Party since 2001 and was also the parties leader from 1994 to 1997. Jenis av Rana is a very religious man and is a controversial figure in Faroese politics because of his attitude towards homosexual people. He has said several times, that the Centre Party has one primary issue which was the ethical issue, all other political issues were less important.[2] In September 2010 he refused a dinner invitation because he did not want to sit and dine with the Icelandic prime minister at that time, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, because she was gay.[3][4]
