Jen Wang

Jen Wang is an Asian American cartoonist, writer and illustrator based in Los Angeles.[1] She has published two books: Koko Be Good and In Real Life (with Cory Doctorow).[2] Wang is a co-founder and organizer for Los Angeles-based comics festival Comic Arts LA.[3] Jen's art work has been published in Adventure Time and LA Magazine.[4]

Early life

Wang is from the Bay Area.[5] She attended the University of California - Los Angeles from September 2000 to April 2005 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design Media Arts. From October 2011 to May 2013, she attended University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a Master of Information degree in Management & Systems.[6]

Career

Wang currently works as a freelance designer at Dominant Primordial Beast. Jen worked as an UX Design Intern at Location Labs, LLC from June 2012 to October 2012. During this same time period, she also worked as an UX/Visual Designer at Acopio.org. From October 2006 to June 2010, Jen worked as a senior designer at Penguin Group.[7]

She also does a webcomic called The White Snake.[8] and sells graphics in the Etsy shop.[9]

Awards and recognition

Wang won the 2014 Cybils Award for Best Graphic Novel for her book In Real Life by Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang. In Real Life was published by First Second Books.[10] In Real Life is based on Cory Doctorow's short story Anda's Game[11]
