Jay Faires runs Band of Outsiders,[1] a content production company, and JFE[2] an investment and advisory vehicle. He invests and advises around the future of content and wellness, including Galore, Parsley Health and Seed&Spark.[2][3][4][5] Band of Outsiders has concepts with Steve Wozniak[6] the Apple co founder and David Keyes a leading human rights figure who runs Movements.org.[7] Faires created Mammoth Records[8] which he sold to Disney and BNY Music which he sold to Lionsgate.[9] He has held c-suite level positions at Warner Music Group, Walt Disney Corporation and Lionsgate.[10][11][12]

He serves as an advisor or board member for Women @ the Frontier,[13] 15X15,[14][15] Invisible Children / 4th Estate[16] and My Friend's Place.[17]

Lionsgate

Faires was President of Music at Lionsgate. His department oversaw music for their film and TV slate, released its soundtracks and scores and was involved with Lionsgate’s music documentaries. The music team received two Oscar ® nominations for Marco Beltrami’s score for 3:10 to Yuma and Bird York’s song “In The Deep” for Best Picture winner Crash.[12][11] While there, the value of the music publishing asset doubled. He worked closely with many of the biggest names in music for their slate with he and his team bringing in new music from: Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, James Blunt, Elvis Costello, Dr. Dre, John Legend, Linkin Park, Rise Against, Serj Tankian, U2, Amy Winehouse and Rob Zombie.[18]

BNY Music & Mammoth Records

He previously founded Mammoth Records – an independent record label, publishing and lifestyle marketing company. He exited Mammoth, selling to the Walt Disney Company for a 65x return on capital.[8] Then, he built his music publishing company, BNY Music, which he sold to Lionsgate.[9] Faires has executive produced concert films EDC: Experience,[19][20] Free Tibet,[21] and the Coldplay concert film licensed to Epix.[22][23]

He earned a Bachelor's degree with Honors from The University of the South where he was Young Alumnus of the Year in 2000, executive-in-residence for the Babson Center for Global Commerce in 2009 and sat on the University's Board of Trustees.[24][25] He received his MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University where he gave the keynote address at the inauguration of their Center for Entrepreneurship in 2006.[26] In 2008, he received the Joseph Papp Racial Harmony Award from the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding.[27]
