Jaliya Wickramasuriya was the former ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the United States and Mexico. Wickramasuriya also previously served as Consul General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles, California from 2005 to 2008.[1][2][3]

Early years

Wickramasuirya was born in Matara, Sri Lanka and was educated at Nalanda College, Colombo. He began his career working in the Sri Lankan tea industry. He worked for the Dilmah, a brand of Sri Lankan tea.[4][5]

Misuse of state funds

The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) arrested him on November 17th 2016 allegedly accepting a USD 245,000 commission while serving as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the US.[6]

Career as a businessman

Jaliya is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Ceylon Royal Teas (Pvt) Ltd Washington USA.[7][8]
