The Iqra University is a private university primarily located in Defence residential area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[1] The university has additional campuses in other parts of the city as well as in other cities, Islamabad and Peshawar.

Founded as Asian Management Institute (AMI) in 1998 by a group of Karachi-based industrialists, the university was renamed as "Iqra University" after granted university status in 2002 by HEC. The university offers undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral studies programmes in engineering, film studies, management sciences, administration, and related social and natural sciences disciplines.[2] Recently, Iqra University inaugurated it's North Campus named as Iqra University North Campus [3]

It is one of the notable private institution of higher learning and currently ranked in among top-ten institution for "business category" by the HEC in 2012.[4] In addition, the university is noted as being the largest employer of doctorate holders as faculty.[5] Also, the university has a largest research publication output than any other higher learning institution of the country.[6][7][8][9][10]

Its owner and Chancellor is an American businessman Mr. Hunaid Lakhani, Vice Chancellor is Dr. U. A. G. Isani, Retired Civil Servant Government of Pakistan and Registrar is Dr. Syed Akif Hasan.

IQRA University was 'ranked at No. 1 in Business category as per Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) rankings 2012.[11] Latest figures from ISI Thompson shown that IQRA University has published research papers more than the other top business schools of Pakistan.[6][7][8][9][10] In 2011 IQRA University was ranked as the no.1 institute among all private institutions in [6]

In a meeting held on July 13, 2012, NCEAC-HEC (National Computing Education Accreditation Council of Higher Education Commission) has granted accreditation to the Computer Science Program of IQRA University for the batches graduating in the academic year 2008-12, 2009–13 and 2010-14. NCEAC-HEC also evaluated the quality standard of the said program and placed into the top most ranking (W-Category) Source Now according to Hec 2015 ranking,iqra university is on first position in Pakistan in Business category.
