Insight Venture Partners is a privately held company that has raised over $13 billion and invested in over 250 companies globally.[2]

History

Founded in 1995, Insight Venture Partners invests solely in technology companies, including application software, infrastructure, internet, data, and software-enabled services. The company is led by technology and software specialists, and has raised more than $13 billion while investing in more than 250 companies.[3] Insight Venture Partners uses a hybrid strategy that includes buyouts and growth equity. They participated in the final round of fundraising for Tumblr before it was sold to Yahoo! for 1.1 billion.[4]

Insight Venture Partners’ approach is to provide companies with practical, hands-on growth expertise in pursuit of long term success. Its investment team selects companies to invest in based on growth-stage status, and placement within the software, internet, and data-services industries. Specific areas of focus include:

Company Structure

Two teams make up Insight Venture Partners: The Investment Team and the Insight Onsite Team. The Investment Team meets with and selects companies each year; investing in them and offering them market insight and exposure to possible acquisitions. The Insight Onsite team is designed to provide dedicated resources to help companies in fast-growth stages, where growth can sometimes outstrip capacity. The Insight Onsite Team was founded in 2000 and provides intensive support and research as companies develop new products and technologies, and as they expand geographically and in terms of customer segments.,[5][6]

Focus

Insight Venture Partners invests solely in technology companies and bringing new technology products to the market. Sector-focused teams are led by managing directors with specific experience in that sector. The company’s technology experts provide research & development assessments based on a combination Agile / CMMI model that allows development teams to identify and prioritize where to focus their efforts. The Insight Onsite team hosts roundtable discussions and webinars several times per year[7] and also hosts an annual Technology Forum featuring guest speakers with expertise in product development. Topics covered in annual Technology Forums have included Agile Development, mobile application development, big data, and performance-oriented infrastructure design.[8]
