Infonautics was an information services company, founded in 1992 by Marvin Weinberger and Josh Kopelman. It was based in Wayne, Pennsylvania, United States.[1]

In 1996 the company was listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange.[2] It was delisted in 2001.[3][4]

In 2001 Tucows acquired infonautics through a business tactic called a "reverse takeover".[1] Initially, Infonautics purchased Tucows and then changed its name to Tucows.[5] On August 26, 2002, Tucows sold eLibrary and Encyclopedia.com to HighBeam Research.

Products

The company created online services Homework Helper on Prodigy,[6][7] Encyclopedia.com,[8] Electric Library,[9] and CompanySleuth.[10][11][12][13][14][15]

Legacy

The Philadelphia Inquirer noted the company was "one of the first Internet companies in the Philadelphia area"[1]
