The Illinois Police Reserves is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Chicago, Illinois providing auxiliary police services to suburban Chicago communities.
State law challenges
In late 2010, an opinion by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan affirmed a state law that requires any auxiliary police to be state certified officers.[1][2] Since IPR was not state certified, its partnerships with suburban police departments went away and they stopped training new recruits.[3]
After a four year break, a new class of recruits is beginning the organization's 300-hour law enforcement training in January 2015; training that is not approved by the state board responsible for certifying all law enforcement personnel in Illinois.[4]
