I Got Next is KRS-One's third official solo album. It remains his best-selling album to date, receiving the RIAA certification for Gold-level sales. The album sold 94,000 copies the week it peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Phat Kat used a lyrical excerpt from "A Friend" for his 2007 J Dilla-produced single "Don't Nobody Care About Us" from his album Carte Blanche.

In popular culture

The album's lead single, "Step into a World", was featured as a bonus track in the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of NBA 2K14. It was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2013 film This Is the End.
