Hypnos (between 2004–2006 Hypnös) is a Czech death metal band.

History

Czech death metal band HYPNOS has been formed in 1999 year by BRUNO (bass/vocals) and PEGAS (drums), who were previously involved in another death band KRABATHOR.

Having signed with Morbid Records (GER) in 2000, the self-titled MCD got released followed by the debut full length ‘In Blood We Trust’ the same year, featuring Mika Luttinen / Impaled Nazarene as guest vocalist. The release was promoted during the NO MERCY FESTIVALS over Europe alongside MORBID ANGEL, DYING FETUS, BEHEMOTH, ENSLAVED and THE CROWN.

The second album “The Revenge Ride” released in 2001 year was produced by HARRIS JOHNS (HELLOWEEN, KREATOR, SODOM, TANKARD, PESTILENCE, VOIVOD) and mastered at MORRISOUND Studios (Tampa, FL). Following its launching, HYPNOS participated in events including WITH FULL FORCE, SUMMER BREEZE, PARTY-SAN and HELL ON EARTH among others. The third album ‘Rabble Manifesto’ (2005) recorded again with Harris JOHNS got nominated for the Czech “Anděl” Award (Czech Grammy Award equivalent) under the Hard and Heavy category. In January 2006 HYPNOS toured with CENTINEX and PURGATORY.

After short hiatus caused by personal issues of BRUNO, the EP ‘Halfway To Hell’ was released in the 2010 year. ROOT’s bassist IGORR and VLASA (Six Degrees of Separation) joined the band as a guitarists and band performed at the BRUTAL ASSAULT Festival (CZ), followed by three shows together with NAPALM DEATH. By late 2011, Hypnos got signed with the German label EINHEIT PRODUKTIONEN, and the fourth album entitled ‘Heretic Commando / Rise Of The New Antikrist’ saw the light in April 2012. Recording duties were handled by the Norwegian sound engineer Børge FINSTAD who worked with bands as MAYHEM, IHSAHN, BORKNAGAR or ULVER and quality reviews resulted in press like DECIBEL MAGAZINE (8/10), ROCKHARD, LEGACY, METALLIAN, TERRORIZER, EMP or NUCLEAR BLAST. Furthermore, Čili Chili, official Czech VODAFONE magazine featured an exclusive interview with Bruno concerning the band and the metal music scene. HYPNOS shot a video for the track title ‘Inverted’, directed by Mejla BASEL, responsible for MACHINE HEAD ‘Darkness Within’ and the Czech Academy Award winner MARKETA IRGLOVA ‘Crossroads’ videos. During 2012, Hypnos toured with NAPALM DEATH, and later with VADER.

In 2013 year, band played big festivals as for example EXTREME (GER) or BRUTAL ASSAULT (CZ). Besides all, HYPNOS got officially endorsed by musical manufacturers as HOHNER, MAPEX, ANATOLIAN and VLASA&BLACK. In spring 2014 year, HYPNOS supported Swedish AMON AMARTH on their East European tour. After this tour IGORR decided to leave due to duties in his main band ROOT and got replaced by CANNI (Six Degrees Of Separation).

In 2014 BRUNO published his autobiography named “REVOLTIKON” (Mystic Production) in edition limited to 800 copies. This book received great responses from the fans and media and got sold out in 100 days. In August BRUNO and PEGAS teamed up again with ex-KRABATHOR main member CHRISTOPHER, who permanently lives in USA, to perform a reunion gig in its most popular line-up at BRUTAL ASSAULT FESTIVAL. Big success of this show resulted in short tour over Czech and Slovakia in March 2015. Three-disc live CD/DVD “REBIRTH OF BRUTALITY” from this tour, recorded at sold out hometown show in Uherské Hradiště, was released in August 2015 again via Mystic Production.

For 2016, recording and releasing of new HYPNOS full-length album in planned. Over the years, band have played approximately 320 shows in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Holland, Belgium and Italy with bands such as Amon Amarth, Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Macabre, Enslaved, Vader, Napalm Death, Dying Fetus, Morgoth, Haemorrhage or Pungent Stench.
