Hugo Oliveira is a Portuguese goalkeeper/soccer coach S. L. Benfica and ex Portuguese National team coach.

He was recognized by the several improvements in high class goalkeepers, such as Jan Oblak, Júlio César Espíndola, Ederson Moraes and Fernando Prass.

Coach with UEFA Goalkeeping License Diploma by the Scottish FA, UEFA “A” License and UEFA Elite Youth “A” License.

Coaching career

Hugo Oliveira began his playing career as a goalkeeper at U.S.C. Paredes in 1993 and ended his career to become a goalkeeper coach at U.S.C. Paredes in 2002. Then,he joined Rebordosa AC in 2003.

In 2004 Hugo Oliveira signed with F.C. Marco where he became the goalkeeper coach and coordinator of the goalkeeping department at the club. He stayed with F.C. Marco until next season when Gil Vicente F.C. signed the Portuguese goalkeeper coach after great performances by his goalkeeper Beto Pimparel.

Hugo Oliveira stayed with the Gil Vicente F.C. until 2008.

In 2008 Hugo Oliveira was signed by U.D. Leiria, where he coached Fernando Prass, who then went to Brazil after a great spell with the Portuguese goalkeeper coach.[1]

Hugo Oliveira’s work gained recognition and he was then recruited in 2009 by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), where he qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as part of Carlos Queiroz staff in the AA team and also part of the FPF football development program in the U20 and U17 team, the “In to the Future” Project.

Two years later he was signed by S.L. Benfica.[2] With S. L. Benfica, Hugo Oliveira has already won eight titles – three Portuguese leagues, one Portuguese cup and four League Cups. He is also responsible for Jan Oblak raise to stardom[3] and sold to Atletic Madrid,[4] and has worked with talents such as Eduardo dos Reis Carvalho, Júlio César Espíndola, Artur Moraes, Paulo Lopes, Ederson Moraes (called up to Brazil national team with only 22 years old).

In S.L. Benfica, he created and developed the “Eagle One” Goalkeeping Department and the Decision Goalkeeper Profile to all club teams.

Congresses and Conferences

Hugo Oliveira is also a guest for various goalkeeping congresses and conferences like Bilderberg International Goalkeeper Conference[5] or APPORT Garda Italy[6] and is the Technical Coordinator of the International Congress of Goalkeepers Training, in Portugal.[7]
