Hornell Traction Company

The Hornell Traction Company was an electric streetcar line serving the area around Hornell, New York. The company was founded in 1892 as the Hornellsville Electric Railway, and construction was completed in 1893. An extension to Canisteo was constructed in 1892, known as the Hornellsville and Canisteo Railway. A branch was built in 1894 to Babcock's Track. Both companies shared common ownership and facilities in Hornell.

Hornell Traction Company consolidated the two trolley lines in 1909. Local line extensions were made in 1913. Traffic dwindled in the 1920s as the company was faced with stiff competition from improved roads and increased automobile ownership. All service was shut down on July 15, 1926.[1]
