Hella (Russian: Маргар́ита) is a fictional character from the novel The Master and Margarita by the Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov.
Description
Hella is the only female member of Woland's entourage in Mikhail Bulgakov's novel, The Master and Margarita. It is implied in various scenes-- such as when we see her, naked, rubbing ointment on Woland's sore legs while he lays in bed wearing only a filthy nightshirt[1]-- that Hella and Woland are lovers. She is also Woland's "maid," in the same manner that Fagotto (Korovyev) (Master and Margarita) is Woland's "translator."
Hella is often depicted as being either entirely nude or in a state of minimal dress. She meets Andrey Fokich Sokov wearing only a "coquettish little lacy apron" and a white housemaid's cap. [2]
Hella is directly responsible for at least one death in the novel.
