Hari Nef (born 21 October 1992) is an American actress, model, and writer. She was born in Philadelphia, raised in Newton, Massachusetts, and currently lives in New York City. Nef made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week Spring 2015, walking for both Hood By Air and Eckhaus Latta.[1][2] Nef is a transgender woman and is known for speaking about important trans issues.[3]

Life and work

Hari began attending Columbia University in 2011 and graduated with a degree from the theater program in May 2015.[4][5]

Her writing has appeared in Dazed, Vice,[6] Original Plumbing, and BlackBook.[7] She has also written a regular sex advice/experience column at Adult magazine.[8]

In 2014, Nef was on the cover of Frische Magazine, issue No.6-FW14.[9] That same year, she was placed at number 68 on Dazed magazines Dazed 100 list.[10] Nef also moved to the top of the Dazed Readers 100, ranking #1 overall,[4] and appeared in the i-D Pre-Fall Issue twice.[11]

In 2015, she again walked shows during New York Fashion Week, including Adam Selman, VFiles, Vejas, Degen, and Eckhaus Latta once more.[12][13]

In May 2015, Nef was signed to IMG Models, making her the first openly transgender model signed to them.[14][15][16]

In the summer of 2015, Hari was cast in the second season of AmazonPrime's Transparent, which debuted in December 2015.[17] She also starred in The Drums' music video "There is Nothing Left" in August.[18]

In 2015, she was named one of The Forward 50.[19]

Elle printed special collectors’ covers for their September 2016 issue, and one of them featured Hari, which was the first time an openly transgender woman had been on the cover of a major commercial British magazine.[20]
