Critical response

Most of the reviewers from fans were mostly positive however, it was very different than what Palmer had released in the past. Actress and singer Keke Palmer embodies powerful women in her new video for “Hands Free.” The video starts with Palmer as an Egyptian priestess, a group of perfectly sculpted men at her beck and call. The party moves forward a few centuries when she works a ‘90s hip hop ensemble for a backyard rager.[2]

Music video

The music video was released on November 11, 2016. The video has an Egypt theme throughout most of the video, then transitions into a modern theme. The video also released on Palmer's official vevo channel.[3] The video starts off with Keke saying "Believe in yourself. Life is a fairytale. This is my world, my truth, my journey,” a handwritten text reads, following the video with a more natural, yet ethereal shot of Palmer. The video is prefaced with footage from a radio interview in which she passionately gives a similar message.
