Hailey Gates

Hailey Gates is an American model, actress, and journalist. She currently hosts the Viceland series, States of Undress.[1]

Early life

Gates grew up in the Los Angeles area, where her family has resided for seven generations.[2]

Career

The Paris Review

Upon her graduation from NYU in 2012, Gates began working as an editor and director of advertising at The Paris Review. She left the magazine in 2015.[3]

Modeling

Gates has starred in campaigns for Miu Miu (by Steve Meisel), Costume National, and Target.[4][1][5] She also appeared on the July/August 2011 cover of fr:Jalouse magazine.[6] She is currently signed to M Model Management.[7]

Film

Gates appeared in 2015's Ricki and the Flash as Emily.[2] She also co-wrote produced a 2015 docudrama, A Space Program, with artist Tom Sachs. The film received a positive review from The New York Times.[8]

States of Undress

Gates is currently the host of Viceland's States of Undress.[9] The investigative docu-series focuses on the political and social circumstances surrounding fashion weeks around the world.[10] On August 30, 2016, Viceland announced the renewal of States of Undress for a second season.[11]

Personal

Gates' maternal grandmother is screenwriter Joan Tewkesbury.[12] Her great grandfather was the first mayor of Santa Monica.[2] Gates' parents separated during her childhood.[10]

In 2012, Gates graduated with a BFA in experimental theater from the Tisch School of Arts at New York University.[12]

As of May 2016, Gates resides on the Upper West Side of New York City.[4]
