In the period from 2000 to 2005, the stadium was called Hanoi Stadium. Since 2005 the historic name Hàng Đẫy has been restored.

Hàng Đẫy Stadium is located in the center of Hanoi with a capacity of 22,500 seats. Before the construction of Mỹ Đình National Stadium, it was where Vietnam hosted football matches of both the men and women's and Olympic teams. The stadium also was the ground for various sporting and cultural events of Hanoi and Vietnam. In 1998, the opening, the Group B and the Tiger Cup Final matches took place here.

Since 2009 football season, all 4 of the football clubs in Hanoi – Hà Nội T&T, Thể Công (V-League), Hòa Phát Hà Nội, Hà Nội ACB (first division) – have chosen the stadium as their home ground.
