Murder in the United States by state

This article is a list of the U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The population data is the official data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The murder rates and gun murder rates were calculated based on the FBI reports and the official population of each state for 2010.

The official population data from the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010 is 309.3 million. The gun murders in 2010 from FBI reports is 8,374.[1]

In 2010 the solved gun murder rate for the U.S. was 2.71 per 100,000, the overall estimated gun homicide rate is 3.5.[2]
