The Grand Rapids Police Department of Grand Rapids, Michigan was established in 1871. Staffed by 292 uniformed personnel, as well as 73 civilian employees, the department handles approximately 150,000 calls for service a year in a city with a population of almost 195,000.

Prior to 1882, for near a dozen years, the police headquarters were at the corner of Monroe and Ionia streets (101 Monroe Avenue).

In June of that year they were moved to corner of Lyon and Campau streets.

In 1966 the department moved to 333 Monroe Avenue NW. This collocated building was composed of both the police department and the 61st District Court and the 17th Circuit (Kent Country) Court.
