Gonzalo Tancredi (born 3 August 1963) is an Uruguayan astronomer and associated professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay.[1] He is an active member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and investigator at Los Molinos Observatory.[2]

His list of possible dwarf planets, along with that of Michael E. Brown, is commonly considered, along with the five dwarf planets recognized by the IAU – Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris – to be the dwarf planets of the Solar System.[3] The Themistian asteroid 5088 Tancredi has been named after him.[4]
