Gloriæ Dei Cantores

Gloriæ Dei Cantores ("Singers to the Glory of God") is a 40 voice choir based in Orleans, Massachusetts, under the direction of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Richard K. Pugsley.

Gloriæ Dei Cantores holds a passionate dedication to illuminate truth and beauty through choral artistry, receiving extensive critical acclaim for its artistic elegance, performance authenticity, and compelling spirituality. “Beautifully finished but richly emotional” BOSTON GLOBE; “Seamless ensemble, seductive phrasing” LOS ANGELES TIMES.

Sharing its vision of inspiration and hope, the choir performed in 23 countries in Europe, Asia, and North America. The choir sings in 18 languages, and has appeared on the concert stage and in recordings with such artists as Gerre Hancock, Keith Lockhart, John Williams, Vladimir Minin, Samuel Adler, Mark O'Connor, Stephen Cleobury, George Guest, Daniel Pinkham, and Margaret Hillis.

Their catalog of 46 recordings showcases an expansive repertoire that encompasses both masterworks and rarely performed musical treasures from Gregorian chant to the twenty-first century, distributed through Harmonia Mundi, USA. “Lovely, pure and radiant” GRAMOPHONE; “Rapturous a cappella passages” CHICAGO TRIBUNE.

Highlights of the choir’s career under Conductor Emeritus Elizabeth Patterson and current Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Richard K. Pugsley include three invitational tours of Russia, the opening of the 900th anniversary of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy, live radio and television broadcasts with the BBC, film soundtracks, the tree-lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Plaza, and performances in some of the finest concert halls throughout Europe and the United States.

The choir’s collaborative ventures have included ten Holiday Tours with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra, a sixteen-city US tour of Mozart’s Requiem with Philippe Entremont and the Munich Symphony Orchestra (Columbia Artists, CAMI, LLC), performances of Mozart’s Requiem with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in Russia, and world premiere concerts and recordings with Grammy award-winning artist Mark O’Connor.

Gloriæ Dei Cantores makes its home at the Church of the Transfiguration (at the Community of Jesus) in Orleans, MA, where it presents a year-round concert series and sings weekly worship services. Recent concerts have featured Walton’s The Twelve, Poulenc’s Gloria, Durufle’s Requiem, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, in collaboration with world-renowned soloists Andrew Nolen and Jossie Pérez
