Glen Shields Public School is a public school located in Thornhill, Ontario. GSPS was established in 1983, with a new extension added on in 2000. It is a school managed by the York Region District School Board, located near Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School. The school provides classes for children from junior kindergarten to grade 8. Upon graduation, most of its students attend either Vaughan Secondary School, Thornhill Secondary School or Woodbridge College for grade 9 and above.

The school offers a variety of activities, including choirs (Intermediate, Junior and Primary), concert band, and various sports teams and clubs. The school's students participate in intramural sports which include basketball, volleyball, relay, cross country, track and field, chess, robotics and others.

Glen Shields offers the Gifted Program as well as the mainstream/normal school program.

The school offers a Breakfast for Learning Program; a program that offers breakfast to students who may not be able to eat breakfast at home for various reasons.

Achievements

In the 2008 Canadian National Mathematics League Contest, the grade 6 gifted classes placed 1st out of about 452 schools that participated in the contest.[1] In 2009, the school participated once again; this year, the grade 6 gifted students ranking 2nd in Canada and 1st in Ontario. In 2011 the school once again participated in the math contest and this time the Grade 8 gifted students placed 1st in Canada In 2011 the grade 8 students participated in the Scholastic Challenge, and the Glen Shields team placed 1st in all of Canada.[2]

In the year of 2011-2012, Glen Shields Public School achieved the gold eco certification.

In the year of 2016 the Glen Shields grade 7 gifted class participated in the Mathematica Euler contest and ranked 1st in Canada.[3]
