Gigantic is an upcoming American 3D computer-animated musical fantasy-comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is loosely based on the English fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, which was previously adapted in the 1947 Disney film Fun and Fancy Free as the segment "Mickey and the Beanstalk". The film is scheduled to be released on November 21, 2018.

Plot

Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, the film will follow Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within clouds. Jack befriends the giantess Inma, who's "11 years old, 60 feet tall, fiery, feisty and a lot to control" and treats him like a living doll. Meanwhile, the antagonists, Storm Giants, stand at 120 feet.

Production

Nathan Greno (Tangled) is directing Gigantic, which is loosely based on the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.[1] The film was once expected to be released in 2017, under the title Giants.[2] In August 2015, Disney revealed the film's new title to be Gigantic, which would be produced by Dorothy McKim, and the film's music would be written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Frozen). The film is scheduled to be released in 2018.[3] On October 3, 2016, it was announced that Oscar-nominated screenwriter Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) will join Greno as co-director.[4]

Release

Gigantic was originally scheduled to be released on March 9, 2018.[5] However, on June 30, 2016, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that Wreck-It Ralph 2 would be released on that date, and Gigantic would launch instead on November 21, 2018.[6]
