Geoffrey Lewis Austin (11 September 1837 – 29 May 1902) was an English Army officer and cricketer. Austin's batting style is unknown. He was born at Canterbury, Kent.
Austin was the youngest son of George Austin, High Seneschal of Canterbury Cathedral. He joined the Rifle Brigade, served throughout the Indian Mutiny of 1857, and resigned as a Captain.[1]
Austin made his first-class debut for Kent against England in 1861, making scores of 20 and 23 in this match, which Kent won by 54 runs.[2] He made a further first-class appearance in that season for the Gentlemen of Kent against the Gentlemen of the Marylebone Cricket Club, making scores of 7 and 6 in this match, which was won by the Gentlemen of the Marylebone Cricket Club.[3] His third and final first-class appearance came seven years later in 1868, for Kent against the Gentlemen of the Marylebone Cricket Club,[4] with him making two scores of 4, with the Gentlemen of Marylebone Cricket Club winning by 132 runs.[5]
An ardent sportsman, he was known as a capital shot, and expert angler and an enthusiastic golfer. He was a member of the committee of the Kent County Cricket Club, and manager of the Canterbury Cricket week.[1]
He died at Chelsea, London on 29 May 1902.
