Dr. G. Parameshwara (born 6 August 1951) is the incumbent Home Minister of Karnataka and also the current president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee since October 2010.[1]
Early life and education
G. Parameshwara's father was a member of Karnataka Legislative Council, H. M. Gangadharaiah and mother was Gangamalamma. He grew up in Gollahalli which is now known as Siddharthanagar.
His primary education was at Gollahalii and Heggere, Tumkur. He went to Siddhartha high school at Golahalli, which was established by his father. He joined government PU College in Tumkur. After completing his pre-university education he cobtained B.Sc. in Agricultural science, M.Sc.Agriculture in University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Bangalore.
He was recognized by the Government of Karnataka and was provided with Scholarship for his higher studies in Australia for his Doctor of Philosophy in Plant physiology from Waite Agricultural Research Institute, University of Adelaide, Adelaide.[2]
He joined the National Cadet Corps (India) at an early age. He was an athlete and would participate in inter college events representing Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra.
Political career
In 1993, Parmeshwar served as Minister for Sericulture and from 1998 to 2004 served as Minister of Higher Education. He has been elected to the Assembly four times. In 1989, 1999, and 2004 he represented Madhugiri; 2008 he represented Koratagere. He was appointed as the President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee replacing R. V. Deshapande.[3]
