In the last week of the 2010-2015 Parliament O'Donnell introduced a proposed Bill on improving tax transparency under the Ten Minute Rule[6] O'Donnell lost her seat in 2015 to George Kerevan of the SNP.

She, in 2016, contested the Conservative seat of Galloway and West Dumfries where she finished in third place with 4,876 votes (14.6%) behind Finlay Carson and Aileen McLeod.

In November 2016, she was selected as a candidate in the East Lothian Council election due to take place in May 2017.[7]
