Ferdousi Mazumder

Ferdousi Mazumder (born 18 June 1942) is a Bangladeshi actress.

Early life

Ferdousi earner her MA degree in both Bengali and Arabic from Dhaka University. She started her professional career in Azimpur Agrani Balika Bidyalay. Ferdousi also worked in Willes Little Flower School for many years.

Career

Ferdousi started her drama career through her brother, Munier Chowdhury, a playwright and novelist. She first acted in the drama Daktar Abduulahar Karkhana". Ferdousi also acted at the very first televised drama of Bangladesh Television. For over forty years of her acting career, she played many roles in both theatre and in television. She acted in theatrical dramas like Akhon Dusshomoy, Payer Aoaz Paoa Jay, Kokilara, Aka, Ekhono Kritodash, Macbeth, Meraj Fakirer Ma, etc.. She also performed in teledrama Shongshoptok where she characterized Hurmoti.

Awards

Ferdousi was awarded Ekushey Padak for her achievement and contribution to the Bengali drama.

Personal life

Ferdousi's husband Ramendu Majumdar and daughter Tropa Mazumder are also actors on both television and theatre. Her brother Munier Chowdhury was an intellectual (murdered by Pakistan Army during Bangladesh Liberation War). Another brother, Kabir Chowdhury, was a professor and intellectual.^[1] She teaches Class IX Bengali at Sunbeams School in Ashulia, Dhaka.
