Felix and Meira (French: Félix et Meira) is a 2014 Canadian drama film directed by Maxime Giroux. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival,[1] in competition at the San Sebastian Film Festival and at the Torino Film Festival. The film was selected as the Canadian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards but it was not nominated.[2][3]

The film won the award for Best Canadian Feature Film at the Toronto festival.[4] It also won Best Screenplay from the 18th Quebec Cinema Awards (formerly known as the Prix Jutra). At the 2014 Haifa International Film Festival, Felix and Meira won the Tobias Szpancer Award for Best Film (Between Judaism and Israelism Competition).[5][6] At the 2014 Whistler Film Festival, it swept all four Borsos Awards (conferred by a jury for Canadian feature films in competition).[7][8] The film was included in the list of "Canada's Top Ten" feature films of 2014, selected by a panel of filmmakers and industry professionals organized by TIFF.[9][10]

Plot

Meira, a young wife and Hassidic Jew, is not allowed to listen to secular music. Her life changes when she meets the free-spirited Félix, a gentile who lives in her neighborhood.
