Football Club Vereya (Bulgarian: Футболен клуб Верея) is a Bulgarian football club based in Stara Zagora. They play in the First League, the top division of Bulgarian football.

History

Foundation and beginning

The club was founded in 2001 by a founding board led by Hristiyan Parvanov, Galin Mihaylov, Slavcho Tanev, Tonko Totev and Dimo Hristov. Until 2005/06 season is playing in Regional groups until the promote in V AFG under the name FC Vereya-Arsenal after merger with Arsenal Kazanlak, but after season 2006/07 Vereya-Arsenal become Arsenal Kazanlak and the 2nd team Vereya Bulsatkom moved to Stara Zagora again and was registered as FC Vereya. They won A RFG 3 times in next 5 season, getting the promotion in 2011–12 season.

Trace Group ownership (2012–present)

Trace Group started to invest the team and in 2012 they started building the new stadium Trace Arena. On May 21, 2014 the club won the Cup of Bulgarian Amateur Football League after defeating Minyor Pernik 2–0 in the final.[1] In the same season 2013/14 they finished 3rd in V Group and promoted to the professional football group B PFG.

In 2016, team applied for the new Bulgarian First League. On June 1, 2016, one of the new signs, the Brazilian Elias Alves da Silva, told the press that he joined the club, because they will play in the top league of Bulgaria, but still no official information was given for the teams that will play in the new league.[2]

On June 7, 2016, Vereya, alongside five other B Group outfits, received a license following the adoption of new criteria for the A Group and thus were promoted and will compete in the 2016-17 Bulgarian First League season.
