F1 Countdown is a Formula One prerace show that debuted on March 17, 2013. It is a pre-race show for all F1 races televised on NBC from 2013 onwards. All pre-races are televised live on NBC Sports, NBC Sports Network and CNBC and streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra. It came as a result of NBC getting broadcast rights to F1 races.

The program is also available in high-definition on either NBC Sports, NBC Sports Network or CNBC. At F1 events, the program is always hosted by Leigh Diffey, Joining Diffey is former racing driver David Hobbs and former racing mechanic Steve Matchett.

History

On October 12, 2012, Speed and Fox Sports, then owned by Fox Sports announced that it was unable to renew its contract to air Formula One racing on Speed after the conclusion of the 2012 season. Two days later, NBC announced that it had reached a new four-year deal to broadcast F1 races beginning in the 2013 season, with the majority of F1 Countdown to be broadcast by NBC Sports Network.[1][2]

Commentators

Leigh Diffey hosts the broadcasts and provides lap-by-lap commentary, with David Hobbs and Steve Matchett providing analysis. For most races, they call the action from NBC Sports' studio in Stamford, Connecticut; however, they do call the Monaco, Canadian, and United States Grands Prix on location.
