Season

Due to European achievement in 1963–64 season, Inter also could debut in Intercontinental Cup facing Independiente off. After two legs, the score resulted in draw despite Inter scored 2 goals conceding 1: the cup was awarded by a tie-breaker, in which the side won 1–0 at extra time.

In Serie A Inter suffered a 3–0 loss in derby:[1] in late January there were 2 draws in row and an uprising defeat, by Foggia in matchday 19.[1] So, over the mid of season, Milan had 7 points over citizen rivals with 15 games to play.[1] The following months saw an historical comeback from the side, that won 13 times and drew twice: 28 points were earned this way, resulting in the first place.[1] Mazzola had a central role in team play, scoring 17 goals and reporting top-scorer title.[1]

On May 27, an year exactly from previous win, Inter retained European title by beating Benfica in San Siro: Jair was the scorer.
