Eric Wong, born in 1978 in New York, New York, is the Executive Vice President/General Manager of Island Records.

Early life

At age 16, Wong applied for an internship he saw listed in Billboard Magazine, and was chosen for a summer internship position at WEA Distribution through Y.E.S., a program designed for minority high school students.[1] Working at WEA Distribution led him to an internship at Atlantic Records, and he became a college rep at EMI Records while attending New York University.[2]

Career

1997-2014

While attending New York University, Wong joined V2 Records in 1997 and was eventually promoted to product manager, overseeing artists such as Moby, Underworld, Stereophonics, and others.[3] After graduating from NYU, Wong joined Island Def Jam in 1999.[4] At Island Def Jam, as vice president of marketing, Wong developed marketing campaigns for the label’s major artists such as Fall Out Boy, Bon Jovi, The Killers, Hoobastank, Sum 41, and Christina Milian, among others.[5] In 2006, Wong joined Bad Boy Entertainment and Atlantic Records, where he simultaneously served as chief marketing officer of Bad Boy Entertainment and senior vice president of marketing at Atlantic Records. Holding both of these positions, Wong was responsible for the marketing of artists including Sean “Diddy” Combs, Janelle Monae, Jay Z, and Toni Braxton.[6]

In 2009, Wong founded his own management company called Wong Management where he worked with artists such as Mariah Carey, Ryan Star, The Rocket Summer, and Wynter Gordon.[7]

In 2011, Wong returned to the Island Def Jam Music Group and was named the Executive Vice President of Marketing, executing creative marketing strategies for artists including Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Avicii, Mariah Carey, Iggy Azalea, The Dream, and others.[8] Wong oversaw the marketing, digital, creative, artist development, video promotion, and video production departments while at The Island Def Jam Music Group.

2014-Present

In 2014, Wong was made the Executive Vice President/General Manager of Island Records, and currently oversees all label operations and overall marketing for the Island Records roster, which includes artists such as Shawn Mendes, Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, Fall Out Boy, Tove Lo, Kiesza, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Mike Posner, American Authors, and more.[9]

Wong was featured on Billboard’s Forty Under Forty Power Player’s list in 2012[10] and 2015.[11]
