This super hit was Shalini's first movie.[1] She acted in it when she was three years old and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artiste.[2] The film was remade soon after in Tamil as En Bommukutty Ammavukku, by the same director.

A couple, Sethulakshmi and Vinod lost their daughter in an accident. The family was travelling in a ship, and the couple's daughter go the top of the ship to play with her doll. The other children throw her doll into the water, making her jump into the water. The couple search for the girl, but in vain. They find her floating in water, which comes as a big shock to Sethu.

Years later, Vinod decides to adopt a girl named Tintu (Baby Shalini). Sethu didn't want to adopt a child. Still then, Vinod forces Sethu to see Tintu in the orphanage. Sethu refuses, as she lost her child and didn't want any. Vinod makes her understand, and Sethu agrees. They adopt Tintu.

After Tintu brought in the home, the couple become happy as earlier. But the problems arise when the child's real mother and father ask their child. Initially Sethu refuses, but later gives the child to her real parents.
