Ellis Clarkson (birth registered January→March 1885[1] — death registered October→December 1947 (aged 62)[2]) birth registered in Leigh district, Lancashire, was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1910s, playing at representative level for England, Rugby League XIII, and Lancashire, and at club level for Hull, and Leigh, as a Fullback, i.e. number 1,[3] his death was registered in Leigh district, Lancashire

Playing career

International honours

Ellis Clarkson won caps for England while at Hull in 1910 against Wales, in 1911 against Wales, and in 1912 against Wales.[4]

County honours

Ellis Clarkson represented Lancashire while at Hull, and is one of only four players to do so, they are; Ellis Clarkson, Bob Taylor, Dick Gemmell, and Steve Prescott.[5]

Genealogical information

Ellis Clarkson's marriage to Margaret Yates was registered during July→September 1909 in Leigh district,[6] they had three children, a son Ellis (birth registered January→March 1906 in Leigh district), and two daughters Beatrice (birth registered January→March 1910 in Leigh, district) and Edna (birth registered October→December 1913 in Leigh, district). Ellis Clarkson was the older brother of the rugby league footballer, Thomas Clarkson.

Note

According to FreeBMD, Ellis Clarkson's birth was registered during January→March 1885, and his death was registered during October→December 1947, this would mean he would have been aged 62 at the time of his death, however FreeBMD states he was 60 at the time of his death.
