Ellington (band)

Ellington is an Australian indie pop band from Brisbane, formed in 2007. The band is fronted and was started by singer/songwriter Jake Bosci (vocals/guitar) when he was in high school. He was later joined by Michael Beatson (guitar) and in 2008 by Lloyd Budd (bass).

Ellington's first EP, The Joy We Keep In, was released in 2007 through the label Starving Kids Records.^[1] The band then left this label and travelled over to the United States to record their second EP, More Like a Movie, Less Like Real Life, with producer Matt Malpass. They then returned to Australia and released the EP independently in late 2008. In 2009 the band toured with the likes of Short Stack, Kenny Vasoli, MC Lars, Behind Crimson Eyes and Something With Numbers.

Jake Bosci had written over 40 songs for their debut album which was recorded in 2009, to be released at some point through 2010. The band were recording these demos with NY producer Eric J (The Academy Is...). The band recently changed their publishing contract. Previously with Sony BMG, they are now signed with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

The band returned home from Atlanta, GA in May 2010 where they recorded 7 new songs with producer Matt Malpass.

In June 2010, after returning from Atlanta GA, the band announced via Twitter that they were separating indefinitely, citing "Creative Differences". The tracks recorded with Malpass were never released, leaving thousands of fans across the world very disappointed.

In 2011, Jake Bosci announced a new project with Rhian Thomas called, The Decoration.^[2] Bosci and Thomas returned to producer Matt Malpass to record an EP which is scheduled for release in early 2012.

Members of Ellington were managed by Australian manager, Jake Challenor at Billy Blue Music (Electric Empire, Radio INK, Holland, Private Life).

In December 2015, Jake Bosci released a solo EP titled "Wild Love". The debut single was titled "Heartbreak". Guitarist, Michael Beatson released a record under the alias, A Direst Desire.

In recent months there has been speculation that the Michael and Jake are in talks again in regards to an Ellington reunion tour throughout Australia in 2016.

The Joy We Keep In

Ellington's first EP, The Joy We Keep In, was released in 2007 under the label Starving Kids Records. On their most recent Australian tour, they only played one song from this EP, "Distance", while the rest of the set came from their second EP.^[7] The Joy We Keep In was made available for purchase through iTunes.

More Like a Movie, Less Like Real Life

Ellington's second EP, More Like a Movie, Less Like Real Life, was self-released,^[8] before the band signed a publishing deal with Sony BMG Australia.^[9][10][11] The EP was recorded in the United States with well respected producer Matt Malpass, and featured guest vocals from Matt Thiessen of Relient K, Jeff Turner of Say Anything and Leighton Antelman of Lydia.^[12] It was made available to order through the band's MySpace page and iTunes, however, a physical copy was not released in stores.
