Elena's Models is an international online dating service website that primarily connects Russian and Ukrainian women with men in other countries. The site lists profiles from 200 countries. .[1] The company was founded in 1999 by Elena Petrova [2] and listed over 2 million profiles since its inception."Elena's Models" is a registered trademark in the USA in the class 45, "Personal and social services rendered by others to meet the needs of individuals".[3] Elena's Models is privately owned.

History

In the late 1990s when the website first launched, it offered for sale addresses of women. In January 2005 the site was upgraded to a membership system, where both men and women were required to create a profile in order to contact other members.

In May 2013 a paid correspondence website AnastasiaDate made an allegation against Elena's Models in a US Federal Court in New York claiming dilution of trademarks.[4] AnastasiaDate's case was dismissed.In October 2013 U.S. District Judge Katherine B Forrest ordered to recover attorneys' fees from AnastasiaDate in favour of Elena's Models, stating that AnastasiaDate's conduct against a direct competitor smacked of a "competitive ploy," citing the ruling in Mennen Co. v. Gillette Co.[5]

In June 2014 Elena's Models software was upgraded to include instant chat and video chat features. In January 2016 the site was upgraded to site-wide fully encrypted HTTPS.[6]

In February 2016 Elena's Models launched its first mobile app for iOS and Android through iTunes and Google Play.[7]

Founder

Elena's Models was founded in 1999 by Russian-born Elena Petrova. Elena met her South African husband through a newspaper ad and moved overseas in 1998. After migrating to South Africa, Elena created online blogs in English (womenrussia.com) and Russian (zamuzh.com) with tips and advice for men and women considering an international relationship.

Following success of Petrova's electronic book in Russian "101 Tips How To Marry a Foreigner", a dating site operation has been established under the brand name Elena's Models.[8]

In 2003 Elena moved to Australia with her family and two children. Elena has a degree in philosophy from the Ural State University (Yekaterinburg, Russia). She is a certified life coach, master practitioner of NLP[9] and trainer of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).[10] She trained in NLP with the founder of Time Line Therapy™ Dr. Tad James and the creator of Neuro-Semantics Dr. Michael Hall.
