Eastside Lutheran College (Or ELC) is located in Warrane, Tasmania.[1] It is a co-educational Lutheran college, catering for Kindergarten to Grade 10. ELC has 15 teaching staff and 170 students.[2] When St Peter's lutheran school was relocated to Warrane, it expanded to become a primary and secondary school under the name "Eastside Lutheran College".[3] Eastside Lutheran College is a family oriented school community, and regularly runs community-based events and festivals throughout the academic year.

College Philosophy

Eastside Lutheran College motto is "Christ our Rock." ELC educates with a Christian philosophy and aims to teach students a strong focus on the Christian values such as honesty, integrity and responsibility. Students are supported by experienced and christian staff and on-campus Chaplaincy program.[4] The staff recognise their unique ministry as Christian role-models.[3]

History

Eastside Lutheran College (originally named St Peter’s Lutheran School) was established in 1982 by St Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hobart.[2] The school was is a part of its Christian outreach to the wider community. ELC was original located in the home next to the original lutheran church in Davey Street. In 1985, when student enrolments numbers were bigger, ELC moved to its new property on the Eastern shore of the derwent river and has been recently known as Eastside Christian School Lindisfarne. By the end of 2002, the School moved towards a secondary curriculum. In November 2004, it was decided to change the name from Eastside Christian School to Eastside Lutheran College (ELC). Eastside Lutheran College is a college apart of the Lutheran Church of Australia.[3]

These house teams are used in school sport events. Like the primary school swimming carnival, sports day and cross country.

Curriculum

Eastside Lutheran College take a collaborative approach to teaching, which contributes towards excellent outcomes for students through a carefully planned and articulated flexible program catering for individual learning needs. The college currently offers:[5]

Co-curriculum

Eastside Lutheran College college offers a variety of co-curriculum programs for students to participate in. As the college continues to expand, the college has been able to establish new programs, such as:[5]

Arts

There is a wide range of programs and electives offered to the students, such as short course in photography and sculpture.

Drama

The students are encouraged to participate in drama, and recently commenced producing annual productions of presentations and plays created by the students.

Music

The college has recently established an instrumental tuition program, in which students can learn a variety of instruments in an individual and small group learning environment. The college also offers a band program, and many performance opportunities at school assemblies, eisteddfods, and community events. In 2015, the College also established its own choir program, with the junior choir performing in the local community and senior choir performing in the Clarence City Eisteddfod.

Sport

The college is active in local inter school athletics and swimming events in Tasmania. It has recently established its own futsal program, as well as a cheerleeding program that regularly participates in local cheerleading competitions run by World Cup Cheer and Dance.
