Ruperto Elichiribehety

ECARE, Spanish-language acronym for Estación Científica Antártica Ruperto Elichiribehety, is a Uruguayan summer station established by the Uruguayan Antarctic Institute on Dec 22nd, 1997 in the Antarctic Peninsula.

ECARE is located in Hut Cove, South East of Hope Bay in the North East part of the Antarctica Peninsula, in Lat: 63° 24´ 08´´ S, Long: 56° 58´ 23´´ W, next to the Argentinian Base "Esperanza" The Station can be able to accommodate 7 people, and it is dedicated to support scientific projects in the surrender areas. It was a former British station, known as Trinity House.

It's named in honor of Ruperto Elichiribehety, Uruguayan Navy Lieutenant who in 1916 led the Uruguayan Expedition attempting to rescue the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition lost in Elephant Island.
