Douglas Martin (Bahá'í)

James Douglas Martin (b. February 24, 1929) was a member of the Universal House of Justice from 1993 to 2005.

Mr. Martin was born in Ontario, Canada. Before devoting himself exclusively to Bahá'í and scholarship, Mr. Martin pursued a professional career as a consultant in advertising and public relations. Mr. Martin was as a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá'ís of Canada from 1960 to 1985, serving as its general secretary from 1965 to 1985. In 1985, he was appointed director-general of the International Community's Office of Public Information at the World Centre in Haifa. He served in that capacity until 1993 when he was elected to the Universal House of Justice.

Education

Douglas Martin holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario (1949), and a master's degree in history from the University of Waterloo, Ontario (1967).
