Devoleena Bhattacharjee is an Indian actress and a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.[3] She is famous for her role as Gopi Ahem Modi from the show Saath Nibhaana Saathiya.

Personal life

Bhattacharjee was born on 22 August 1990 in Sivasagar in Assam into a Bengali family. Her father who passed away in 1997 was a Bengali and her mother belongs to an Assamese family. She has one younger brother. She completed her schooling from GBME School, Sivasagar, Assam and did her graduation in Commerce (Accountancy Honors).

Controversy

In January 2015, Devoleena got into a major controversy and cat fight with co-actor Loveleen Kaur Sasan who plays Paridhi. As per source, she was insecure with Loveleen's entrance whom she replaced her good friend Rucha Hasabnis which character Rashi died.[4]

Bhattacharjee landed in another controversy in October 2016 where she accused her co-actor Utkarsha Naik for kidnapping her dog. She could not find her pet anywhere and there she had filled a complaint against her to PETA. She said, "Yes, I am filing acomplaint against Utkarsha, I think she is the one who is behind missing of Jugnu. She was the one who took Jugnu in her car. And she was very obsessive about him. I am confident that its Utkarsha who has done this thing. I am going to file acomplaint against her in Peta."[5]

Acting career

Bhattacharjee was first noticed when she auditioned for the dance reality series Dance India Dance season two. She joined Sawaare Sabke Sapne Preeto with NDTV Imagine as Bani. The story is located against a Punjabi backdrop and is based on the lives of five sisters. Devoleena Bhattacharjee played the role of Baani Kaur Dhillon, younger sister of Preeto in the serial. She was cast overnight as the female lead in STAR Plus' drama Saath Nibhana Saathiya, one of the highest rated shows currently in India, after Giaa Manek, who previously played the role, was ousted.[6] As Giaa Manek wanted to participate in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5,[7] she left the show and Devoleena got the chance to play the role. She is paired opposite Jaggi Singh (Mohammad Nazim) in the show.
