Derek Estlin Purvis, , (born November 27, 1972) is an American film director, producer, executive producer, screenwriter, and entrepreneur. In a career spanning two decades,[1] Derek has financed, produced or directed 13 films of various genres.[2] He is a founder and creator of the groundbreaking movie industry Application Movie Pitch Pro.[3]

Early life

Derek Estlin Purvis was born in Pittsfield Massachusetts to Joanna Alioto, of Sicilian descent and Doug Purvis of Scottish descent. At the age of five his mother moved them to Holderness, New Hampshire. Derek spent the next decade growing up in rural New Hampshire, among the mountains and lakes. In 1980, the major motion picture On Golden Pond was filmed in his hometown. Having spent the summer watching the film being shot from the marine patrol boat, he became fascinated with the art and process of filmmaking. A career pursuit he would never waiver from.

Career

Derek Estlin Purvis started his career at Paramount Pictures in the early '90s and spent 8 years working inside the studio system. In 2001, he relocated to Boston and worked as an Executive Producer. In 2005 he joined Markedia Worldwide, a Film Finance and Branded Content studio. While at Markedia, Derek worked with Michael Bassick to finance all or part of eight films, including The Ten starring Paul Rudd and Jessica Alba. Derek left Markedia in 2010 to partner with Christy Scott Cashman at Saint Aire. Sait Aire placed the equity finance in The Kids Are All Right (film), which was nominated for 4 Oscars and won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. Also while at Saint Aire, Derek produced and directed The Love Guide starring Parker Posey. With the advent of the new digital content model, Derek has spent the past 3 years in the Technology space, creating the ground-breaking mobile app Movie Pitch Pro.[4]

Personal life

Derek Estlin Purvis is married to actress Aija Terauda.[5] They got married on December 13, 2013. Derek and Aija met in Boston in June 2012 at his movie premiere for The Love Guide. Aija and Derek have one child- Dorian Emerson Purvis who was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 6, 2014.[6]
