Dejan Despić

Dejan Despić (pronounced [dêjaːn děːspit͜ɕ]; born 11 May 1930 in Belgrade) is a Serbian composer, author, music theoretician and pedagogue.

Biography

Despić studied composition with Marko Tajčević and conducting with Mihajlo Vukdragović 1950-1955 at the Music Academy in Belgrade. After his studies, he devoted himself to composing and teaching. From 1956-1965 he was teacher at “Mokranjac” music school in Belgrade and from 1956-1995 as a Professor at the Belgrade Music Academy, today (FMU).

Despić is a full member of the Serbian Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU). From 1999-2012 he was Head of the Department of Fine Arts and Music.

Despić is the author of more than 240 compositions, including an opera - as well as numerous textbooks (music theory, harmony, harmony-analysis, orchestration) for the school and university level, but also in the field of scientific and theoretical studies. His compositions are published by the Musikverlag Brandstätter Köln-(bry-music.de)[1]
