Dean Slayton is an American college football coach. Slayton was head coach for the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets. After leaving Howard Payne in 1979, Payne followed Jerry Moore from North Texas State to be an assistant coach with the Texas Tech Red Raiders for 16 seasons.[1]

Slayton was the 13th head college football coach for the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets located in Brownwood, Texas and he held that position for seven seasons, from 1972 until 1978. His career coaching record at Howard Payne was 30 wins, 40 losses, and 3 ties. As of the conclusion of the 2007 season, this ranks him fifth at Howard Payne in total wins and 12th at Howard Payne in winning percentage (.432).[2]
