"De eerste keer" (The first time) was the Dutch entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, performed in Dutch by Maxine & Franklin Brown.

The song is a moderately up-tempo number, with the duo singing about getting back in touch with one another years after the end of their relationship. They describe their feelings during tat relationship, and conclude that they should see each other again, aiming to "pick it up just like the first time".

The song was the fifteenth act of the night, after Slovenia's Regina with "Dan najlepših sanj" and preceding Belgium's Lisa del Bo with "Liefde is een kaartspel". At the end of the televote, it had received 78 points, placing 7th in a field of 23.

It was succeeded as Dutch representative at the 1997 contest by Mrs. Einstein with "Niemand heeft nog tijd".
