Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage is a 2010 first-person 3D adventurehorror thriller video game. It is the second in an expected series of three games, with Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder being the first. Darkness Within is a series of adventure games inspired by famous horror writer H.P. Lovecraft.

It was originally planned to be released in the first quarter of 2009, but was delayed to Spring 2010.[3] Lighthouse Interactive, the publisher of the first game, went out of business before the release of the sequel, which was published by Iceberg Interactive. The game was released on May 28, 2010 in the UK, with localized versions following in June across the rest of Europe.

Players again take the role of police detective Howard Loreid, who suffered from the paranormal happenings around him in the first game, "In Pursuit of Loath Nolder". Now, Howard discovers that his own horrible past is connected with the madness that is about to swallow him. This second volume sees the Darkness Within saga come to its unsettling conclusion.

Unlike its predecessor, which utilized a traditional Myst style of movement, this game uses a first-person perspective similar to that of most first-person shooters.

Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage Director’s Cut Edition was republished on December 5 on Steam[4] with enhanced graphics and some more additions.

An official soundtrack featuring 29 tracks (69 minutes) was also released on steam as a DLC on Nov 3, 2015.[5]
