Cruel Intentions (pilot)

Cruel Intentions is an American drama pilot that is in production for NBC. It acts as a sequel to 1999 film of same name, with Sarah Michelle Gellar set to reprise her role of Kathryn Merteuil.[1][2]

Plot

The pilot is set fifteen years after the events of the film and sees Bash Casey, son of Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove, discover his late father's journal. Upon discovering this he is thrown into a world of lies, sex and power. The potential series will also see Kathryn Merteuil, Bash's step-aunt, attempt to gain power of Valmont International.

Cast

Production

The series pilot was co-written by the film’s writer-director Roger Kumble and Lindsey Rosin & Jordan Ross, who created The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions. Kumble will direct the pilot, which he executive produces with the movie’s producer Neal H. Moritz.[10][11]

In February 2016, Deadline.com reported that producers were in talks with Gellar to reprise the role as Kathryn Merteuil in the television sequel.[12] On February 23, 2016, Taylor John Smith and Samantha Logan were both cast, with Smith playing the male lead role of Bash Casey.[13] On February 24, 2016, Gellar reached a deal with producers to join the show.[14]

On October 31, 2016, NBC announced that it had passed on the project, but Sony Pictures Television announced it was shopping the pilot with other networks.[15][16]
